Kookaburra River Queen 1

Image: Kookaburra River Queen 1

The Kookaburra River Queen Paddlewheelers are true icons of the Brisbane River.

Constructed from traditional Queensland timber and weighing a whopping 140 tonnes, the 30 metre Kookaburra Queen 1 is powered by a 350 horsepower engine and is designed to come as close as possible to the original steamers.

The Kookaburra Queen 1 was built using shipwrights’ techniques that date back to Noah’s Ark! Each panel has been individually shaped using steam and every nail was hand nailed to ensure quality of craftsmanship.

The vessel was aptly named because the Kookaburra is a native Australian bird that is never seen to drink water – a prophecy that all boat owners would hope to emulate!

The MIRIMAR was built in Brisbane and launched on June 13, 1934.

Proudly made from Queensland timber, she was Brisbane’s largest, and oldest, launch vessel with a total length of 96 feet. The crew welcome you to 'Come aboard and be part of our history.'

After many successful years in the Brisbane River and Moreton Bay as a showboat and during wartime as a supply vessel with the Australian Army, the ‘Mirimar’ was taken to North Queensland for 17 years where she was used for inter-island cruises. When she returned to Brisbane in 1986, she was completely restored.

MV Mirimar staff pride themselves on the personal service they offer to each and every one of their guests. Cruises and catering for professional organisations, for birthdays, corporate functions, engagements, weddings, social events and Christmas parties can be arranged.

Enjoy your Blues Cruise or any party on Queensland’s oldest river vessel with the charm and design of yester year.
